Internet & Wireless Hotspot Policy
The Internet is a global resource with a highly diverse user population and information content. It is possible that individuals using the Internet might access information they personally find offensive or disturbing. The library does not accept responsibility for the content or information accessible through the Internet and, except as described in the Policy, does not monitor or control content. The library is not responsible for changes in content or material.
As with printed material, not all information on the Internet is accurate, complete, or current. Users are encouraged to evaluate Internet sources just as they do printed publications, questioning the validity of the information provided.
The Calloway County Public Library subscribes to a filtering service that filters all Internet traffic on the network. The filtering service limits the amount of pornographic or obscene materials available on the Internet, but no filtering service is completely effective. The Library does not edit what is made available or filtered out by this service.
Children under the age of 18 must have a signed Internet User Agreement on file at the front desk.
The library's wireless network is not secure. Information sent from a laptop can be captured by anyone with a wireless device and appropriate software within three hundred feet.
Library staff may provide limited technical assistance and no guarantee can be provided that patrons will be able to make a wireless connection.
The library assumes no responsibility for the safety of equipment or laptop configurations, security, or data files resulting from connection to the library's wireless network.
The library is not responsible for stolen equipment. Please do not leave your electronic devices (e.g. laptops, tablets, phones, etc.) unattended in the library.
The Calloway County Public Library Board reserves the right to alter this policy without prior notice.
